We, the 7.5 billion humans occupying the Earth, are putting far too pressure on the planet already and it is going to get worse unless we act, and act now.
Xtinction Rebellion has succeeded in driving home the urgency of the crisis, but if you feel it could do better if it offered achievable, concrete short term goals in addition to the larger message, you've come to the right place.
Practical Rebellion is a proposed* daughter project of the Xtinction Rebellion movement, focusing on goals achievable in 3 months. This could be something small and simple like forcing Microsoft to make narrow margins on pages and double-sided printing default options to save printing paper (seriously, why has this not been done yet?), or something a more complex like ensuring governments improve laws & regulations to enable greater adoption of solar panels in homes.
With the might of the XR movement, PR stands a real chance of having an immediate impact on the world, thus inspiring existing XR supporters and also attracting new supporters.
The hope behind PR is that once people see how easily change is achievable, they will be inspired to demand even more. It also runs the risk of making the climate crisis seem less urgent.
This page has been made at 2:30am with a bottle of wine on this cold 15th day of January 2021. I will revisit this.
*Admittedly, proposed only by me right now.
